Overseas Nursing Study Tours with Work the World

Meaningful clinical and cultural experiences for you and your students

With over 20 years of experience working with nursing faculties worldwide, we are perfectly positioned to collaborate with you on developing diverse overseas clinical and cultural experiences for your students.

These experiences can deliver a combination of clinical learning, cultural engagement, and discipline-specific academic development. They are all-encompassing tours designed to deepen both nursing skills and understanding of the field of nursing in unique cultural contexts.

We are partnered with James Cook University, with whom we have worked closely to create highly-tailored overseas study tours that have successfully enriched their students' learning and personal development.

A Collaborative Approach

You and your university have unique requirements when it comes to overseas study tours. This is precisely why we encourage a collaborative approach to building experiences that work for you and your students.

We will work closely with you to understand your needs and expectations, including accreditation guidelines, and create a completely tailored overseas experience that’s meaningful for your students.

Our Hospital Partnerships

We have official, mutually-beneficial partnerships with all the hospitals we work with.

It’s these close partnerships that enable us to tailor your study tour in detail, making sure you achieve your objectives.

Our in-country teams are also a presence in the hospitals. They have strong in-person relationships with hospital staff, from individual department staff to hospital directors.

These relationships provide a level of access for your students that would otherwise be challenging, and they enable us to facilitate faculty access in the hospital.

Where can you and your students travel?

Our programs run in carefully selected locations that offer both exceptional clinical experience in low-resource hospital settings and cultural immersion in local community settings.

We run faculty-led overseas nursing study tours in:

Sri Lanka - Kandy

OSNT 11

Kandy boasts a wealth of experiences. A rich foodie culture, an abundance of natural beauty, and a fascinating history make it popular with travellers from all over.

Ancient civilisations and UNESCO World Heritage sites are set amongst cashew and tea plantations.

You can also visit the 'Temple of the Tooth', said to hold the tooth of the Buddha, as well as one of the biggest elephant orphanages in the world.

Nepal - Kathmandu

OSNT 1

Kathmandu is a fascinating, vibrant, and fast-paced city with hundreds of sacred temples, colourful festivals, a diverse nightlife, and peaceful inner-city gardens.

Outside the city, take your pick of adrenaline sports from white-water rafting to paragliding.

Awe-inspiring mountains, unforgettable rainforest safaris and the mini-kingdoms of the Kathmandu valley are all on your doorstep too.

Vietnam - Hue

OSNT 5

Hue is one of Vietnam’s most exhilarating cities.

Bicycles overloaded with vegetables wheel down crowded streets, steaming bowls of beef ‘bun bo’ are dished out by the ladle, and ancient pagodas rise from nearby river banks.

Located centrally, all of Vietnam’s best attractions are within reach – Lan Ha Bay’s stunning beaches, Hoi An central market’s famous street food vendors, and the wartime tunnels of Ho Chi Minh, included.

Community Days

You and your students will also have the opportunity to gain clinical experience and cultural immersion in a rural village setting. These community days help contextualise the city-based experience.

In the morning, you and your students will visit the local health outpost, clinic, or rural hospital (this varies depending on your chosen destination), where you'll see the unique challenges rural clinics face when trying to deliver care for their patients. In the afternoon, you'll immerse yourselves in local life, gaining a deeper understanding of the culture, beliefs, and ways people earn a living.

Depending on which destination you choose, you could:

  • Visit sprawling tea plantations
  • Help local fishermen bring in the day’s catch
  • Hike to historic mountain temples

How does this benefit our partner hospitals?

Our hospital partnerships aren’t transactional — they’re relationships. Built on respect, trust, and shared goals. Because of this, our overseas nursing study tours are more than just an opportunity for you and your students — they’re an opportunity for the hospital too.

We make regular equipment donations to help hospitals fill gaps where resources are scarce, and make direct financial contributions for every student we host.

Beyond this, there is tremendous scope for cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary learning that benefits everyone.

Don't just take our word for it

"I learnt about new conditions (ones I would not see in Australia) and various cases and treatments. I learnt a lot about Vietnamese healthcare and how different nursing procedures are undertaken in Vietnam.

My time overseas allowed me to experience and gain a greater understanding of healthcare in a different country, and improved my cultural awareness and sensitivity.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity — you will not regret it! You are supported every step of the way!"  - Lucy Crowther, La Trobe University
