This summer more than 100 allied health students from across Australia and New Zealand will be jet setting overseas on a tailored Work the World placement. New clinical experiences, great friends, and life-changing adventures await those embarking on this once in a lifetime experience. How does your summer compare?

GSP 2016

Work the World Australia is excited to announce that spots for our 2016/17 Global Summer Placements are now open. Due to popular demand, Work the World Australia will be running a number of innovative 2-3 week Global Summer Placements for all our allied health students across all eleven of our incredible destinations. With 2015 places filling in record time, you’ll need to get in quick to secure your spot for 2016.

Seize your summer by gaining invaluable experience interacting with communicable diseases, advanced pathologies and presentations rarely managed in the Western World. You'll develop and share skills you already have, as well as picking up expertise only found through an overseas placement. For those looking to develop both professionally and personally, you'll work alongside experienced health professionals to gain a deep understanding of how healthcare is delivered in resource-poor settings.

A Global Summer Placement is perfect for those of you looking to enhance your own expertise, refine your resourcefulness, and return home with a reenvigorated passion for your future in healthcare. With places now available over 2016/17 summer, you could be working with the Maasai tribe in Tanzania, learning Spanish in Peru before stepping into one of South America’s largest oncology departments, or exploring the ruins of old coastal slave forts after busy morning working in a HIV clinic in Ghana.

Work the World understands that your placement is about more than just your time in clinic – you’re going overseas, which is why our exotic destinations were not chosen for their fantastic clinical opportunities alone! Expect to enjoy 24/7 in-country support, comprehensive end-to-end placement organisation, language lessons, catered meals, and much more. Come home and unwind after your placement in one of our secure, comfortable houses while you plan weekend adventures with new mates.

To ensure we don’t oversubscribe the departments within our partner hospitals, a maximum number of places have been set for this summer. This way, we can ensure your clinical placement will be filled with opportunities for patient interaction. For University of Sydney nursing student, Madeline Nastaly, one of our placement opportunities during 2014/15 summer in Tanzania impacted her perspective:

An experience like this changes you. It changes the way you see yourself, it changes the way you see healthcare and it especially changes you as a nurse. As challenging as it can be, I am now able to better adapt to my environment and provide better care to my patients.
