I decided to go with Work the world Pokhara, when I found it on the internet from a search of Physical Therapy placement in Nepal. I saw all the pictures of Pokhara were beautiful and it seemed like a cool place to visit so I decided on it. The pre departure support was wonderful. I found Leah and Colin were always there to answer out all of my questions. The airport transport and pick up was great.
Karuna greeted me, found me and took me back to the house. Then later Alison, the only other person for my first week came later that afternoon. The other day we went to the city hospital for orientation. That was fun and the lunch was great. The experience I had at the hospital was over all a positive one. It was very different though. Hospitals here do not require as much document securities/patient privacy as we do at home, which is shocking for me. That was probably the biggest cultural shock I experienced. The cases I saw at the hospital were mostly stroke patients. My role overall in the hospital was to observe the doctor, take notes and then also be a physiotherapy assistant with some patients. The aide job part was the most fun.
The people here (staff) are amazing and willing to cater to your every need. They are always there to be sure you are 100% happy and cared for. I went paragliding which I would definitely suggest. The views were stunning and it was a great experience. I would definitely recommend this program, it was a great time and all the Nepalese people are wonderful.
